TECH TOOL

My tech tool was slideshare. I really liked exploring slideshare. I use power point a lot in my classroom throughout the year. I recently started to use slideshare to upload my presentations online. With slideshare you can take any power point presentation and put it on to a blog or a web page. Presentations that contain many images are difficult to upload. It may take several minutes to upload a presentation. I have found that presentations containing pictures must first be converted to a pdf file. Once the presentation is converted to a pdf file it can be easily uploaded and shared.

SIG #3 reflection

I am excited to reflect on a SIG Blog presentation....I am going to reflect on my BLOG!  I have really started to use my blog regularly. This group showed me so many more ways to use it. My students are great at using blogs for journal entries, but this group was able to open my eyes to multiple uses! It seems like students really like to blog. I think that the group touched on a number of ways to introduce blogging. I really like the DIGITAL PORTFOLIO idea!!

Gotta love this link!!!

SIG #2 reflection

Ipad applications in education. Wow. I do not have an ipad, but I want one now! I think ipads are great for the classroom. Especially after all of the great ways this group has shown me. I never imagined there were that many things that can be done with an ipad. The apps make the ipad so easy to use. I think that students will be engaged because the technology is so fun to use. I really liked their explanations for how and why ipads should be used in the classroom. The SIG showed a lot of different tools that seem excellent. I think that students would jump at a chance to use and ipad in class! Great pres.! Very informational.

21st century survey

Well the survey was as expected....inner-city, urban schools, are way behind when it comes to 21st century thinking.....uphill battle!

Quickfire Lab 6/27

I decided to make a model to explain mobile learning. I decided to build a little house (yes that is a house), a vehicle (lego space ship), and a school (cmon..use your imagination!) It shows how I can learn while on the go using online technologies and my PLN. For example. I started doing homework on my computer at home, but I had class that was starting in just 20 minutes. I missed the previous day's class, so on the way to class I listened to the lecture I had missed via pod cast. I tweeted my classmate that I was running late so my classmate was able to record what the teacher was talking about. When I entered class it was like I never missed a beat! Hope you liked my mobile learning model and example!!! Here is a pic of my model!!! ooh la la

Day One Reflection

Well it is a good thing that I remember day one...I swore I already posted a reflection, but hey. I really enjoyed crafting my social presence. I only had an email account and an rss account. After learning about all of the technologies that we are going to discuss I felt kind of overwhelmed. I feel like it is a good thing that I am in this class before I get left behind! There are so many new techs that I am excited to learn about, I am sure that in two weeks I will have a completely different outlook on my social presence!

SIG #1 reflection

Snapshots for learning was great for me. I use a lot of images in my classroom. There are do many tech tools that involve video these days that I think pictures get left behind. This presentation showed me some new and interesting things that I can do with images in my classroom. I really hope that the SIG group updates their info from time to time because I know that I want to use their resources. I thought that the website that they created was great as a support tool too. Over all I really liked the presentation. It opened my eyes to some new things that I can use in my classroom.

Week One Reflection (Wordle)

Wow, Wordle was the perfect tool to help me reflect on week one.  There were so many new things that I learned. Looking at my Wordle reminds me about how my brain feels about week one. All of these ideas flying around my head. I am sure that once I weed out the techs I do not like, I will have a clearer picture how I feel about the class. Wordle is a great representation of my scrabbled brain!

No Technology Please

This is almost the exact opposite of what we are doing.....should we rush down and give them all ipods or let them be??

Creativity Reflection

Today I worked on a create use lab using a child's doll. At first it made me laugh and I could not think of any creative uses for my doll. After brainstorming I found a creative use for the doll.  I decided that I could teach my daughter Brooklyn to name parts of the body in different languages. I could put stick tabs on each body part in a foreign language. I would leave the tabs on the doll until all of the information was retained. After she learns the body parts in one language I can change the stick tabs to a new language.

The activity taught me that creativity is not something that is without effort. Thinkers must truly step back and reflect on how to implement creativity.  I am glad I got a chance to get in touch with my creative side. It made me look at other things that I could put to use in a creative manner.

I found a cool video about creativity on YouTube.

Learning Style Results

Well after being called a drifting surfer by one survey I am not surprised about this survey's results. I came in all over the board. I scored highest on the kinesthetic and naturalistic styles. Funny that I feel like I am a visual learner. I liked the survey. It made me reflect on the differences in learning and learning styles. I think it important to constantly remind ourselves that each individual learns differently. We must be sure we are covering all the bases when creating new lessons plans and using new technologies in the classroom.

What kind of tech user am I?

A drifting surfer! They called me a drifting surfer! lol I love it! My results said that I could care less about technology...kinda weird. I thought I was pretty up to date on my tech use. If what I do online is regarded as a "drifting surfer" I can't imagine how often I would have to be engulfed in technology in order to be considered a higher level tech user! Drifting surfer does sound kind of cool though!

MSU

CHECK OUT THE MAET PROGRAM!

1. Social Media in the classroom: SM is playing a major role in today's schools. Facebook and other SM are rapidly invading our schools. Tech. integration is going to be necessary in order to keep US students current and competitive. Blogspot and Facebook can be used to incorporate SM into classrooms. It has been an uphill battle trying to convince "old school" teachers and administrators that SM is a positive thing. Social Media use in the classroom can be a controversial topic. However, with a few restraints and careful teacher overview SM can be an amazing new tool for educators.

2. Two great teacher resources are Blogspot (i'm using now!)...and google rss. Both are run through google and can be found on Google's site.
